Three Days Until Pub Date!
Recounted with "charm, concision and evident relish for the riot of period color."
It’s hard to believe, but pub date for New York’s Secret Subway is on Tuesday. I know a lot of people who pre-ordered the book have already received their copies. The Wall Street Journal gave the book a nice review this week (here’s a link to a pdf of the review in case you hit a paywall). Here’s the blurb from the review:
Delightful … Mr. Algeo, an author and public-radio journalist, recounts this history with charm, concision and evident relish for the riot of period color. … His sources are a feast of drollery and starchy elegance.
Not too shabby!
I have two events next week to celebrate the book’s release, one in person and one online. The in-person event is Tuesday (September 30) at 7:00 pm CT at the Raven Book Store here in Lawrence, Kansas. Click here for details. I’ll be giving a talk, presenting a few cool images from the book, and, of course, signing copies. If you’re in the Lawrence area, I’d love to see you there.
The online event is the next night, Wednesday (October 1), on Facebook Live at 8:00 pm Eastern/7:00 pm Central. Here’s a link to the live feed. I’ll be doing a presentation, taking questions, and giving away five copies of the book—and, since only seven people have expressed interest in attending so far, you’re chances of winning one are pretty good!
I’m also doing an event in New York on Thursday, November 13, for the Victorian Society New York. I’m really looking forward to that one.
If you haven’t purchased the book yet, what are you waiting for? Now is the time!

My copy just arrived today! My husband has already stolen it.
